We obtain references for all SVC volunteers through our volunteer application form, and for many projects we also obtain a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure to ensure that volunteers do not have convictions for relevant offences. All references and personal details are treated strictly confidentially and, where appropriate, according to the Data Protection Act and/or CRB requirements. This includes ensuring that they are securely stored.
References
We require the names and addresses of 2 people, each of whom must have known you for at least 2 years. They must not be related to you, or from your own peer group. We will contact your referees, describing the project you have volunteered for and ask for a character reference. If you wish, you can see the letter and form that will be sent to your referees.
CRB Disclosures
Volunteers on the majority of our projects are required to complete a Criminal Record Bureau check before they can start volunteering. These forms are available from the SVC Office and staff are available to help you complete it correctly. We’ll also run through with you what forms of ID you’ll need to bring in to complete the form.
