Fundraising Procedures

Thank you for contributing to our fundraising events to raise money for Student Volunteering Cardiff (SVC) and its projects. As SVC is a charity, we are highly dependent on donations from organisations and individuals who wish to help our cause. If we were to stop receiving money from people such as yourself we would not be able to continue to support the fantastic work our volunteers do with vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community across Cardiff – so thank you so much for your support! We really appreciate it.

(For further information about the projects we run and the kind of activities our volunteers get up to, please explore our website.)

When a charity such as SVC decides to hold a fundraising event there are certain rules and regulations they must follow as outlined by Charity Law. One rule that fundraisers must adhere to is to make it clear what they are raising money for. This is important because no one should imply money will be benefitting one cause when the money will actually be spent on another. When you are contributing towards an event make sure you know what cause will be benefitting from the money raised at the event. Currently we are only able to raise funds for SVC or the specific projects we run. If SVC wanted to raise money for another charity, due to our constitution, we would need to raise money and then buy something for that charity as a donation. However it would have to be clearly shown to our donators that any money donated would be spent in this manner.

From time to time people may be asked to contribute towards a fundraising event in some way. For example, when holding a cake sale organisers may contact all SVC members to ask if anyone would like to help out. We would like to thank you again if you do agree to take part in any of our fundraising events as the more help we get the more money we can raise for the charity. However please be aware that any contributions you make (e.g. baking cakes for a cake sale) will be seen as your donation to the charity. Therefore, we are unfortunately unable to reimburse you for any costs you may incur from fundraising (e.g the ingredients to make the cakes). If you have any questions about this issue please talk to a member of staff in the SVC office.

Let us take the opportunity to thank you again for taking an interest in and contributing to our fundraising activities. Every extra pound we can raise thanks to your help will enable us to keep the charity going so Cardiff University volunteers can continue their good work throughout Cardiff. If you have any fundraising ideas and would like to organise an event, or if you would just like to be involved in an event that is already due to go ahead, please contact our fundraisers on fundraising@svcardiff.org who can discuss your ideas or give you a task on upcoming events.

 Thanks!!
