***APPLICATIONS CLOSED FOR 2011/2012***
This project, which was created last year, has developed into a new and exciting opportunity for volunteers to gain valuable classroom experience in a secondary school. Volunteers will spend one morning in the school participating in a variety of different educational activities. After getting the bus up to the school, volunteers will help with a before school reading scheme. For 20 mins students will help support individual pupils with their literacy skills and by listening to them read, help to vastly improve their reading ages. Volunteers will then have the fantastic opportunity to work with the teachers and TAs to help out in the classroom during the first lesson working with both individual students and groups. Unlike some of our other reading projects, Llanrumney High offers volunteers direct teaching experience within a secondary school as well as contact with SEN pupils. This is invaluable experience for any volunteer planning on doing a PGCE or teacher training.
