The project involves visiting a Cardiff secondary school and assisting some first year pupils that need extra help with reading. As a volunteer the aim is to improve their reading skills. The children need to be encouraged and helped to be enthusiastic about reading. By the end of the reading scheme, the beneficial effects of the project are evident as some children have managed to improve their reading age by as much as 2 years. Volunteers should like reading and working with children on a one to one basis.
