Students aged 18+
Greenhill School, Cardiff
Once a week
Project is now closed Greenhill School is specifically designed for pupils who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and as such struggle in mainstream schooling. There are between 50 and 60 pupils aged 11-16 years at the secondary school. Many of them come from environments of high crime and may have already been in trouble with the police themselves.
The school provides both core and vocational subjects and as a volunteer you will support pupils either in the classroom or with outdoor activities. Your role is to keep the pupils on task but also to build a rapport with them to support the development of their social, behavioural and communication skills. The school aims to ensure the pupils leave with some qualifications rather than none at all. It is hoped that the presence of volunteers will expose the pupils to a different and positive way of life that may inspire them to achieve their goals.
