My name is Evee and as of May 2017 I am the Secretary on the Board of Trustees for SVCardiff.
In my day job, I am Project Coordinator for the Mental Health Charity Gofal, overseeing their projects in the Vale of Glamorgan just next door to Cardiff. Gofal are involved in the Time To Change campaign against stigma surrounding mental health as well as providing front line support to people with experiences of mental ill health.
I am a graduate myself, having finished my MSc in Swansea in 2011 and have a long standing history of volunteering and involvement with charity work. I began Volunteering in Swansea Mind, facilitating drop in sessions and wellbeing courses in 2009 and passionately continued to do so for the next 5 years - up until I moved to Cardiff in 2015.
I think of this not just as the start of my volunteering also as the start of my career. I have been supporting vulnerable people in various circumstances ever since then and cannot imagine a different way of working.
I am now able to reflect on how my personal well-being and career has benefited from volunteering. I have also seen the positive effects volunteering can have on the community, on social engagement, and on the development of both life and work skills for everyone involved.
As you can see, I have a great passion for advocating equality in opportunities, especially surrounding mental wellness. And I cannot think of a better way to improve mental well-being for everyone involved than through volunteering. That is why I am excited to be part of SVCardiff’s fantastic work in bringing these benefits to the community and cannot wait to see what lies ahead.
