Congratulations! By deciding to volunteer you will be improving your local community and gaining new skills and experience for yourself. To become an SVC volunteer just follow these steps...
** See our FAQ page for more information if you are an international volunteer, or you are worried about the outcome of your DBS check. **
Have a look at our project lists to help you decide which project would interest or develop you! You are allowed to apply to do more than one project, but please consider the time committment involved. Please get in touch to talk it over with us if you would like.
To complete an application form you can either...
You will need the details of two referees who you have known for 2 years and are not friends or family.
The majority of SVC projects require you to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. To do this you will need to come into the office and fill out the form with one of the staff. Please click here to look at the official government web page for the most up to date information on what evidence you need to provide.
International volunteers: Unfortunately DBS checks only cover the UK, so unless you have been resident in the UK for 5 years or more, we will also need a criminal record check from your home country to account for the periods of time not covered by a UK DBS check. You can find more information about how to request a criminal record check from overseas here.
If you complete a paper application form remember to hand it back into the office as soon as possible.
Your DBS check will be sent back to your permanent home address, so make sure that you get it to the SVC office as soon as you can - you will not be able to start volunteering until the DBS check has been receieved by the staff.
Once all the steps above are completed you are ready to start volunteering! Your Lead Volunteers will be in touch with you soon!
